Lots of new customisation and features, but do they make you a better player? Is it worth it at $179.99?
Just announced as part of Microsoft’s E3 presentation is the new ‘Xbox Elite Wireless Controller 2’.
The new controller’s features include adjustable-tension thumbsticks, shorter hair trigger locks, and a wraparound rubberized grip, all in a controller that has been “redesigned from the very start again”.
The Controller boasts “30 new ways to play like a pro”. It has Bluetooth built-in and charges via USB-C. You can save up to 3 custom profiles in addition to the one default profile.
It also features voice command technology, allowing you to take screenshots and video with the power of your voice.
Also included in the box are lots of spares, alternative buttons and paddles as well as a charging dock, which is quite generous. Although you could take the opinion that it should be standard at this price point, and therefore not generous at all.
Xbox Elite Controller or 4 Switch games?
All of the above is very nice to have, but it would be pointless if you’ve spent all your money on the controller and therefore have nothing left to buy any games with.
You could also argue that most of the above are gimmicks and they won’t actually improve your playing abilities. But that is a discussion for another day.
Currently, on Amazon you can get, Super Smash Bros Ultimate, New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe, Super Mario Odyssey & Diablo for $188.81. A difference of only $8.82. The question is if you have both consoles, would you rather have a new controller or 4 new Nintendo Switch games?
We would rather the games, even though the controller is very lovely. I’d wait for a sale or try to pick it up second hand, in a few months.
